Posted · Category: Framework, MIT License

Velocity is a jQuery plugin that re-implements $.animate() to produce significantly greater performance (making Velocity also faster than CSS animations) while including several new features to improve animation workflow.

Velocity outperforms jQuery at all levels of stress, Transit beginning at medium levels of stress, and GSAP beginning at high levels of stress. At minimum, Velocity is always on par with other engines. In just 7Kb, Velocity includes all of $.animate()’s features while also packing in color animation, transforms, loops, easings, class animation, and scrolling. Drag and Drop jQuery File Uploader with Progress Bar

Posted · Category: GPL License, MIT License, Upload

jQuery File Uploader is a jQuery plugin to drag and drop files, including ajax upload and progress bar. The idea for this plugin is to keep it very simple; unlike other options/plugins that mess up a lot with the markup and provide some really ‘hacky’ ways to make it available for prehistoric browsers.

The focus will be for modern browsers, but also providing a method to know when is the plugin is not supported; with an easy interface to use on any design you come up. Dual licensed under the MIT and GPL licenses.

Build Multi-State Prototypes with Permit jQuery Plugin

Posted · Category: Framework, GPL License

Permit.js is a jQuery plugin that makes building interactive, multi-state prototypes for websites and apps easy. Maybe your website has certain features that are only available to logged-in members and other features only available only to administrators? Or perhaps your app has different features depending on whether it’s on- or offline? Or what about the free versus paid versions? These are all examples of states.

Permit.js makes simulating those different situations a breeze. It’s designed for use by anyone that does interactive prototype work in HTML and CSS, including information architects and other user interface and user experience (UI/UX) professionals.

Please note that do not in any situation use permit.js as a means of actually securing content. The plugin is meant to be used for prototyping purposes only. The plugin uses a combination of javascript cookies and CSS to hide and show content. That’s not at all secure and any code kiddy can easily “break-in”.

You Might Not Need jQuery?

Posted · Category: Information

jQuery and its cousins are great, and by all means use them if it makes it easier to develop your application. If you’re developing a library on the other hand, please take a moment to consider if you actually need jQuery as a dependency.

Some developers believe that jQuery is protecting us from a great demon of browser incompatibility when, in truth, post-IE8, browsers are pretty easy to deal with on their own. Go and check out this tool: You Might Not Need jQuery.
