A New jQuery UI Theme: Aristo

  • License Free

For those that arn’t familiar with jQuery UI, it’s essentially a collection of jQuery plugins that try to do for user interaction what jQuery did for JavaScript. Like it’s parent library, jQuery UI does its very best to remain cross browser compliant. It is easy to implement. It is very easy to theme.

Ace and Aristo are the respective open source themes of SproutCore and Cappuccino, applied to their parent JavaScript libraries. Tait Brown has ported the “Aristo” theme for Cappuccino over to jQuery UI.

It’s a proof-of-concept to illustrate how jQuery UI could progress if they get sacrifice some of their direction and get some nifty designers on board. Imagine the possibilities if jQuery UI got Cocoia or Sofa on board!

    Hey Ray!

I wasn’t sure what you mean’t by “how jQuery UI could progress if they get sacrifice some of their direction”. Made it sound like we are stubborn and like our current theme :) , which is not true! The current state of the themes have nothing to do with a forced direction as much as they have become dated. They were more current at one point for sure.

We are actively trying to make it easier to theme jQuery UI, and I have already posted a concept for one new theme for jQuery UI: http://forrst.com/posts/jQuery_UI_Alternate_Theme_in_Progress-gCV

Once some of the theming changes have landed in jQuery UI 1.9, I’ll be working with the UI team to publish documentation on how to theme jQuery UI using the new additions.

    Cheers,
    Doug

FYI: This is certainly by no means new – its been out for at the very least for 1 year for JqueryUI.
