Test Your Website in Different Browsers and Platforms

  • Capture, License Free

browsershots.gifWanna test your web application or website in different browsers and different patforms? Browsershots can help you. It makes screenshots of your web design in different browsers. It is a free open-source online service created by Johann C. Rocholl.

When you submit your web address, it will be added to the job queue. A number of distributed computers will open your website in their browser. Then they will make screenshots and upload them to the central server of Browsershots. It supports Windows ( Firefox 1.5, Internet Explorer 5.0 and 6.0 ), Mac (Firefox 2.0, Safari 2.0 ), Linux ( Iceweasel 2.0, Konqueror 3.5 ).

the only drawback is that you can only request 140 screen shots per day, therefore if you’d like to check out a few different pages – you quickly run out of allocated shots…
otherwise an excellent and useful tool. 9/10

This is nice for viewing static html/css pages, but is anyone aware of a product that actually let’s you browse your website in a different browser??

I have AJAX and javascript effects on various pages of my site, so the pages look different depending on user activity. I’d like to be able to browse my pages in IE5 for instance, and see if the javascript works (something a screenshot does not really help with).

One thing to watch out for with browsershots.org is that the various testing computers may or may not have Java, etc., turned on if you don’t specify– so tricks that depend on JavaScript or Flash, for instance, may not look like you expect because the tech is turned off.
