Admin Style Interfaces for Ruby on Rails

  • Framework, License Free

Active Admin is a Ruby on Rails plugin for generating administration style interfaces. It abstracts common business application patterns to make it simple for developers to implement beautiful and elegant interfaces with very little effort.

Active Admin’s interface was designed from the ground up for non-technical users. It makes it easy for developers to build highly usable interfaces that customers will actually enjoy using. You can get started with one line of code or customize the entire interface with the provided DSL.

While we are on the subject of creating nice administrative interfaces, the Barebones CMS Admin Pack is, IMO, a better approach for admin tools that actually need to do real work, still look elegant, and not get in the way:

Written in PHP, not Ruby, for sanity’s sake. Admin Pack requires a real programmer to get it doing stuff. All the tools I’ve built with it have been a HUGE hit with users.

That is a strange generalisation; rails programmers aren’t real programmers, especially VS PHP programmers. PHP isn’t even a real programming language… at least not enough. I am a PHP programmer by day, but rails programmer by night. The reason I am getting into rails is because you don’t have to rinse and repeat as much of your code. Also, the MVC implementation is great and the activerecord is genius. Rails is also a lot quicker than almost any PHP framework I have tried. Also, Rails has a great engineering team behind it with a clear vision.

Also, I just got tipped this one on the rails irc channel:
