All these comments about the design being thrown together in Photoshop without considering all the backend things aren’t really relevant people, read the title, it’s about creating an interface in Photoshop, not about doing up the (x)HTML and CSS, or about hooking it in with a dynamic web site and database.

Sure, the interface should be fast loading and clean, but at the same time, not every user is a system expert and many users like an interface that is pretty whilst still being easy to use.

Yes, other things such as how it will hook in need to be considered, but in all jobs I have worked on where the design is actually done by a designer and not by the developer, the developer provides a list of what things are exposed to the user and what they can do with it, along with anything else that may be of relevance to the designer.

Those things are only an issue to the designer if the designer is also the developer, and even then, this article isn’t about developing an administration area, it’s about designing the interface in Photoshop.

Personally, I think it’s a great tutorial that serve it’s purpose very well, thanks for putting it together!

Notice all the people talking about CSS and XHTML. People, this is an admin interface for backend running of a web app type site. XHTML and CSS aren’t even the half of it. Databases, PHP, Ajax and a ton of other crap have to be considered. This person just fanicfully threw together a “pretty” page in photoshop.

I agree with Matt. Designers, as in this case, are not developers or admins. They’re artists. Try to refrain from making this look good and focus on fast use, quick navigation, and intuitive layout. Make it simple and plain as heck and make sure it’ll load super fast. Personally, I think designers should stick to the front user side of things. It’s a pain for programmers and coders to make have the “fancy” stuff designers playfully throw together in photoshop anyway.
