We make a JavaScript image zoom tool called Magic Zoom. As the user hovers over the small image, a zoomed image appears to the size. It's easy for users and it's easy to install. It is free for non-commercial use and is £25 for a commercial license. We also make a tool called Magic Magnify that uses Flash to zoom into the image. It's also free for non-commercial use.

Some related ones are the Brain Maps API – very much like ‘zoomify’ which is built in to Photoshop CS3, only it’s lightweight javascript instead of Flash and so you can customize the look/feel of it and don’t have to live with the logo (like Zoomify).
