Let me mention another real fine screenshot service with loads of options, unobstrusive thumbnail bubbles ( if wanted ), selection of virtual screen sizes, no queue - instant images, quality adjustment, thumb sizes up to 360x240px ( in any way you like ). On the market since more than 2 1/2 years now, and of course free. Check it out at www.artviper.net/websitethumbnails.php or www.artviper.com/tools.php

cheers

I appreciate what Snap has been doing development-wise, but implementation-wise the effect seems to have turned off alot of users.

Just to see if it was possible, a few months ago I put together a devkit that uses the Snap tools, but instead of displaying screenshots on rollover, it prints them on the page, wrapped in an RSS/XML feed. It's called Screenshots in Syndication, if you'll allow the self-link. It's been really helpful from a web design perspective -- if you are a designer who uses delicious to bookmark a lot of beautiful sites throughout the day, you can then tag them by genre, subscribe to the tag's feed, then use to the devkit to browse your own personal gallery by genres like 'e-commerce', 'ornate', 'flash', etc.

Anyway, just wanted to affirm that Snap technology does have some potential even if it hasn't been fully realized yet.

oh yes please for the love of god and all that is accessible and simple on the web, DO NOT IMPLEMENT THIS!

It is infuriating you you accidentally mouse over a link and trigger 5 extra http connections, causing my browser to have a fit of downloading small, usless images. Then it covers the text that I was actually trying to read and I have to move the mouse away again so that I can actually read the content.

These were a stupid idea from the start, and I hope and pray they do not spread any further. They are a solution for a problem that simply does not exist.

Can I say please don't? Snap links have been popping up all over the web in the last few months and most sites turned them off after an avalanche of negative user feedback. The use case of someone hovering over a link to find out more about it is just bogus, when I go to a link I go there to click it.

The only thing snap links do is annoy people when they have their mouse cursor on a text and use the keyboard to scroll.

More rants: http://adactio.com/journal/1243
